Clinician-Patient Communication to Enhance Health Outcomes

We are now offering a new healthcare provider workshop from the Institute for Healthcare Communication, Clinician-Patient Communication to Enhance Health Outcomes. This training is available to all health care providers on behalf of the Take Control Take Charge Self-Management Program and funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

The Clinician-Patient Communication to Enhance Health Outcomes will be offered virtually through Zoom. You will also receive a meeting request as a hold in your calendar. A few days prior to the workshop, you will receive the course workbook and Zoom link. Please know that there is no pre-work required.

The Clinician-Patient Communication to Enhance Health Outcomes is a half-day interactive training session that assists the professional in enhancing his or her communication skills. The benefits of effective communication between clinicians and their patients are far-reaching and well documented. With growing pressures for improved care outcomes, higher client satisfaction, and increased job satisfaction among providers, organizations are developing a variety of strategies to become more patient-centered.

Clinician-Patient Communication to Enhance Health Outcomes is predicated on the “4 Es” communication model that includes the following key points:
• Engaging the person
• Empathizing with their concerns
• Educating, using clear, concise language and checking for understanding
• Enlisting the client as a partner and focus of the care

Technology Requirements: A personal computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone with Internet access is required to connect to the workshop. If you are using a computer that does not have a microphone built in, you will need a microphone or headset.
